In Mukachevo, medics revived a woman who choked on shashlik
In Mukachevo, a 65-year-old woman nearly died after choking on a piece of shashlik while eating. This was reported by the Transcarpathian Emergency Medical Care Center.
According to medics, passersby called an ambulance after the woman suddenly began to suffocate. Witnesses noted that she was eating shashlik when a piece of meat blocked her airways.
When the emergency medical team arrived at the scene, the patient showed no signs of life — she was not breathing and had no pulse.
Ambulance crew No. 703 arrived, consisting of doctor Mariya Hoychuk, paramedic Halyna Hopa, and EMT Mykola Lomaha.
The medics immediately began urgent resuscitation measures aimed at restoring airway patency. The Heimlich maneuver, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and lung ventilation using an Ambu bag were performed.
Within a few minutes, the foreign object was removed from the airways, after which the woman’s pulse and breathing were restored.
After stabilizing her condition, the patient was hospitalized at St. Martin's Hospital.
Medics emphasize that in cases where a person cannot breathe, speak, or cough due to a foreign object obstruction, it is necessary to immediately call an ambulance and, if possible, begin first aid, as minutes are critical in such situations.
