In the case of a child's death from starvation in Vinnytsia region, social workers and a doctor will be tried
Prosecutors of Vinnytsia region have sent an indictment to court regarding officials in the case of the death of a 10-year-old boy with a disability in the Mohyliv-Podilskyi district. This was reported by the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The case concerns the director of the territorial social service center, a social worker, and a family doctor. According to the investigation, due to their improper performance of official and professional duties, the minor boy died in December 2025.
The director of the institution is charged with improper performance of official duties that caused the death of a person (Part 3, Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The investigation believes that she did not ensure proper control over the work of her subordinate regarding the social support of the child.
The social worker assigned to the family is charged with improper performance of duties concerning the protection of the child's life and health, which caused death (Part 2, Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She was supposed to personally visit the family, assess the child's condition, and take necessary measures if it worsened. However, the worker limited herself to communicating with the boy's mother and based on that compiled visitation reports. From August to December, 14 reports were made, the last one dated December 15, the day before the child's death, where the boy's condition was recorded based on the mother's words.
The third accused is the family doctor. She is charged with improper performance of professional duties that caused serious consequences to a minor (Part 2, Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), as well as unauthorized actions with information in automated systems (Parts 1 and 3, Article 362 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, the family doctor, who visited the sick child, saw a rapid deterioration of the child's health but did not record this in medical documentation or notify the relevant services.
The indictment against all three defendants has been sent to court for consideration.
The prosecutor's office is also appealing the sentence regarding the child's mother, who was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for knowingly leaving the minor in danger and malicious failure to fulfill child care duties.
