Hungary Achieved the Exclusion of the EU Declaration Clause on Accelerated Ukraine Accession — Magyar
Hungary succeeded in excluding from the final declaration of the EU summit the provision on the accelerated accession of Ukraine to the European Union. This was reported by the country's Prime Minister Péter Magyar.
He noted that it was at his initiative that, on the eve of the document's approval, the clause providing for the acceleration of Ukraine's European integration process was removed.
"Regarding Ukraine's EU accession process, at my initiative, the clause concerning the acceleration of accession was deleted from the text at the last moment. It was not easy. For the first time in a year and a half, there may be a final declaration adopted by all member states," Magyar wrote.
In addition, Budapest expressed reservations about opening the next negotiation clusters on Ukraine's EU accession. According to Euronews, some other member states share a similar position.
"We have reservations about opening all other negotiation chapters after the opening of the first cluster. And we are not alone in this — there are other member states saying the same. We advocate for an accession process based on merits and results," the Hungarian prime minister said.
