In Kharkiv, law enforcement officers detained a 25-year-old man and his 15-year-old partner, suspected of cooperating with the Russian special services and preparing a terrorist attack. According to the investigation, the couple collected information about the servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and planned to manufacture an explosive device.
As reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects were remotely recruited through a Telegram channel, where they were offered "easy earnings." Following the instructions of a representative of the Russian special service, they rented a house where a charity event was to be held.
According to the investigation, Ukrainian military personnel were supposed to be among the participants of the event. To obtain data about the defenders, the suspects installed hidden video surveillance cameras in the premises. Using this equipment, they planned to collect personal data of servicemen, information about their surroundings, and other details that could be of interest to Russian special services.
Moreover, law enforcement established that under the curator’s instructions, the couple began preparing to manufacture an improvised explosive device. It was planned to be used to carry out a terrorist act in Kharkiv.
Law enforcement exposed the suspects before the plan was implemented and detained them.
The man and the girl were notified of suspicion of preparing a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy (Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The man is also charged with illegal possession of explosive substances without the appropriate permit (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court chose a preventive measure for both suspects in the form of detention without the right to bail.
As previously reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a terrorist attempt in Mykolaiv and detained an agent of the Russian special services who was preparing to blow up a Defense Forces serviceman’s car using an improvised explosive device. According to the SBU, the suspect was detained directly during the placement of the explosive under the Ukrainian defender’s vehicle.
