Ammunition Detonation at the Training Ground in Khmelnytskyi: The State Bureau of Investigation Has Launched an Inquiry
As is known, on 31 July, an emergency incident occurred at a training ground of one of the military units in the Khmelnytskyi region, resulting in an explosion followed by detonation.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported that all circumstances of the emergency are being established and a legal assessment of the actions of the responsible persons will be provided.
"Employees of the SBI have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the ammunition detonation at the military training ground in Khmelnytskyi, which injured four servicemen.
The incident occurred on 31 July 2026, at approximately 11:55. According to preliminary data, an uncontrolled detonation of ammunition took place," the SBI stated.
It is noted that the four injured servicemen were hospitalised. The severity of their injuries is being determined.
The SBI added that due to the ongoing ammunition detonation, investigators cannot yet safely begin examining the scene. At the same time, SBI employees are already interviewing the command and personnel of the military unit, as well as conducting other urgent investigative actions.
The preliminary qualification is a violation of the rules for handling weapons, as well as substances and items that pose increased danger to the environment, which caused bodily injuries to several persons (Part 2, Article 414 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
