Paris engulfed in riots after PSG victory: injuries and hundreds detained — video
The celebration of "Paris Saint-Germain"'s victory in the Champions League final in France ended with mass riots and clashes with law enforcement. In several cities across the country, including Paris, there were arsons, acts of vandalism, and confrontations with the police, resulting in hundreds of arrests.
French media report that after the final match on the Champs-Élysées in the capital, tens of thousands of fans gathered. Some of them used pyrotechnics, launched fireworks and signal flares. Police confiscated a significant amount of prohibited pyrotechnic devices.
According to the French Ministry of the Interior, incidents began during the match. In Paris, there were recorded arsons and damage to shops and restaurants. Near the PSG stadium, a crowd destroyed several commercial infrastructure objects. Due to the riots, law enforcement temporarily closed certain transport routes in the capital.
Overall, more than 400 people were detained across the country, with over 280 in Paris. At least seven police officers were injured during the riots. One officer sustained a serious head injury in the city of Agen.
There are also reports of an attempt by a group of aggressively minded individuals to break into one of the police stations in the French capital.
Recall that in the 2025/26 Champions League final PSG defeated Arsenal in a penalty shootout after a draw in regular time. This trophy became the second in the history of the Parisian club and the second consecutive in the most prestigious European club tournament.
