France Detained a Russian Shadow Fleet Tanker in the Atlantic — Macron, Video
The French Navy conducted an operation to detain the oil tanker "Tagor," which departed from a Russian port and is under international sanctions. This was reported by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
According to him, the operation took place in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean with the participation of international partners, including the United Kingdom. The French military acted in accordance with international maritime law.
The President of France noted that vessels of the so-called shadow fleet are used to circumvent sanction restrictions, violate international maritime rules, and provide funding for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
"It is unacceptable for ships to evade sanctions, disregard maritime law norms, and contribute to financing the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for over four years," the French leader stated.
Macron also emphasized that the activities of such vessels pose additional risks to the environment and maritime transport safety.
According to him, shadow fleet ships often ignore basic shipping safety requirements, creating threats both to the environment and to other participants in maritime traffic.
