US Court Bans Donald Trump from Adding His Name to Kennedy Center
US President Donald Trump stated that his administration will transfer control of the Kennedy Center to Congress after a court ordered the removal of Trump's name from the iconic Washington building, Reuters reports.
Trump said he instructed the US Department of Commerce to "take all necessary steps with Congress to allow the full transfer of this institution" and place responsibility for its operation, maintenance, and management on the legislators.
On Friday, May 29, a judge ruled that the performing arts center, which Trump renamed the "Trump Kennedy Center," cannot be renamed without an act of Congress.
US District Judge in Washington Christopher Cooper ordered the president's administration to remove all physical signs bearing Trump's name within 14 days and exclude any references to the "Trump and Kennedy Center" from official materials.
"The organic statute of the Kennedy Center clearly states that the Center must be named after President Kennedy, and it cannot have any other official name or public memorial based on a unilateral decision of the Board of Directors," the judge said.
He also added that Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.
On his Truth Social page, Trump said that the major renovation planned for next month will be impossible without closure, and that Cooper's order to keep the center open will be dangerous.
"I cannot be involved in a situation where public danger thrives in plain sight," Trump said.
