Fraudulent "psychics" swindled over 130 thousand euros from a 74-year-old woman for a "money cleansing" ritual
In the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, a 74-year-old pensioner became a victim of a fraudulent scheme and handed over more than 130 thousand euros to unknown persons. This was reported by the local police, writes Newsmaker.
Law enforcement officers in Chisinau are investigating a case of large-scale fraud following a complaint from the 74-year-old woman. On June 2, the General Police Inspectorate reported that the pensioner fell under the influence of individuals posing as "psychics" who convinced her to hand over a significant amount of money.
The woman contacted the Chekany police inspectorate. According to her, unknown persons communicated with her in Russian via WhatsApp and persuaded her to participate in so-called "rituals" that were supposed to protect her son from danger.
The perpetrators claimed that her money was allegedly "charged with negative energy" and required "cleansing." After that, they convinced the woman to give 96 thousand euros to an unknown person. Later, the fraudsters said that the funds were allegedly blocked at customs and persuaded her to make additional transfers through international money transfer systems.
As a result, the pensioner transferred 27,723 euros to persons located in Ukraine and Armenia. Additionally, on May 25, she gave another 7 thousand euros to another unknown woman.
The total amount of damages is 130,723 euros. The police are identifying the persons involved in the fraud and clarifying all the circumstances of the case.
