The US House of Representatives supported the consideration of an $8 billion "lend-lease" for Ukraine
The US House of Representatives supported further consideration of a legislative initiative that provides military aid to Ukraine and the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia. The procedural decision was supported by 218 congressmen, while 204 opposed it. This was reported by Republican Congressman Don Bacon.
According to him, the vote concerned advancing the so-called discharge petition, which allows bringing the bill to the House floor despite the lack of support from the chamber's leadership.
“The House voted 218 to 204 to advance the petition to provide military aid to Ukraine and impose tough sanctions on Russia. The House will vote on final passage tomorrow. This is our Churchill moment, and we must pass this test,” Bacon said.
As reported by the American publication The Hill, six Republicans joined Democrats during the vote, enabling the necessary majority to continue consideration of the document.
The bill's author, Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks, stated that this vote demonstrated the support of American lawmakers for Ukraine.
“This vote is not a formality. It shows whether the US Congress supports the Ukrainian people, their fight for freedom, democracy, and independence,” Meeks emphasized.
The bill provides Ukraine with $8 billion in military financing loans and extends the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) until 2027, which allows the supply of weapons and military equipment. Additionally, the document includes provisions for imposing additional sanctions against Russia.
The initiative was introduced to Congress back in April 2025, but its consideration was delayed for a long time due to the lack of support from the majority of Republicans.
The final vote on the bill is expected to take place on June 4.
