In the Netherlands, a court handed down sentences to three men in the high-profile robbery case of the Drents Museum, during which a Dacian golden helmet and three bracelets, property of Romania, were stolen from a temporary exhibition.

As reported by NOS, all three defendants were sentenced to 47 months in prison — nearly four years. The court found that they jointly organized and carried out the robbery, which was prepared and executed "professionally and thoughtfully."

Two of the accused reached agreements with the prosecution, agreeing to cooperate in exchange for reduced sentences and the return of part of the stolen property. For them, the prosecution requested 3.5 years imprisonment. The third defendant did not make a deal, and prosecutors demanded 5.5 years imprisonment for him.

However, the court in Assen imposed identical sentences on all three, explaining that it was impossible to precisely determine each one's contribution to the return of the stolen jewelry. Therefore, the court chose not to differentiate the punishments.

The robbery occurred on January 25, 2025, when the criminals blew up the museum entrance with a powerful explosive device. They stole exhibits from the Romanian historical collection, the centerpiece of which was the Cotofenesti golden helmet — an almost entirely gold artifact from the 5th century BC, which holds the status of a national symbol.

After the incident, the helmet and two golden bracelets were found and returned, but the third bracelet has yet to be recovered.
