US Federal Court Orders Removal of Trump's Name from Kennedy Center in Washington
A federal court has ruled to remove the name of US President Donald Trump from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. CNN reports on this.
Following the court order, the leadership of the cultural institution instructed to remove Trump's name from the official title and all internal and public materials.
Staff were ordered to urgently update email signatures, official letterheads, and other documents using only the names "John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts" or "Kennedy Center." All other changes, including signs, brochures, and the website, must be completed by June 12.
Federal Judge Casey Cooper ruled that the center's board did not have the legal authority to add Trump's name to the institution's official title. The decision states that Congress designated the name in honor of President John Kennedy, and only the legislative body can change it.
The Kennedy Center stated that it is complying with the court's decision while considering possible further legal steps.
After Donald Trump returned to the White House for a second term, he changed the composition of the cultural institution's board of directors by appointing his supporters. Subsequently, some materials began using the names "Trump-Kennedy Center" and "Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts."
Following the court ruling, Trump announced his readiness to transfer control of the institution to Congress, stating that he does not plan to continue participating in the project without sufficient freedom to make decisions.
The court also ordered the removal of all signs and any mentions of Trump's name from the center's premises and official resources.
