On Thursday, June 18, the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico announced that on the eve of the European Council summit he will meet with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, writes TASR.

"I assume that we will primarily discuss the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU," said Fico.

According to him, a discussion is planned regarding the next joint meeting of the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine.

Fico also stated that the President of Ukraine proposed to hold it in Kyiv, while he would prefer Bratislava as the venue. However, the head of the Slovak government expects a compromise to be found. He suggested that both governments could meet on Ukrainian territory.

Fico also said that he sees no reason not to support the conclusions of the European Council regarding Ukraine. At the same time, he reiterated that Slovakia will not provide weapons or financial aid to Kyiv.

The Prime Minister added that he has never opposed Kyiv's aspiration to join the European Union.

"The government I lead will not support any shortcuts, exceptions, or ways to bypass the standard EU accession process. Ukraine must meet all the conditions," said Fico, adding that the EU is not capable of playing a decisive role in peace negotiations in Ukraine.
