Ukraine wants to legalize 20-minute breaks for meditation and stress relief at work
A draft law No. 15281 has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada to amend the Labor Code regarding the introduction of a break for psychological relief of employees. Currently, there is no explanatory note to the document.
As reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", the document provides for the legislative establishment of employees' right to a special break to maintain mental health and prevent professional burnout and exhaustion.
According to the initiative, with the employer's consent, employees will be able to request a break during the working day for relief lasting up to 20 minutes.
It is envisaged that such a break will be included in working hours.
Employees will be able to use the break time for:
- meditation;
- breathing exercises;
- physical activity;
- other activities aimed at relaxation and restoration of strength.
It is worth noting that during the past year, 650,000 people in Ukraine sought help from psychologists. A significant portion of them came with complaints of symptoms of emotional exhaustion.
The main causes of professional burnout are named as constant stress at work, excessive workload, lack of control over work processes, and conflicts.
