MMC for foreigners and stateless persons – how fitness for service will now be determined
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading bill No.15015, which regulates the issue of undergoing the military medical commission (MMC) by stateless persons and foreigners during their involvement in military service in Ukraine. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
The document provides for amendments to Article 70 of the Fundamentals of Ukrainian Health Legislation, which regulates the activities of military medical commissions. It concerns the possibility for foreigners and stateless persons who have expressed a desire to join the defense of Ukraine to undergo the MMC.
The Committee notes that current legislation allows such persons to serve in the military, but does not provide for a procedure for determining their fitness for service by the Ukrainian MMC system, nor access to appropriate medical and social guarantees.
After the adoption of the amendments, military medical commissions will be able to determine for foreign servicemen the causal link between diseases, wounds or injuries and military service. The MMC will also establish the necessity and conditions for medical and social rehabilitation and assistance to such persons.
