Rented an item, but it broke: who should pay for the repair
Renting equipment, cars, or even household items is becoming increasingly popular. Ukrainians are more often renting electronics, tools, cars, or seasonal items instead of buying them. At the same time, not everyone knows the rights and obligations of the parties during such use.
First of all, the lessor, that is, the one who rents out the item, is obliged to hand over a working product to the client and check its operation directly in the presence of the user. This rule applies to both household appliances and other equipment.
Who is responsible for repairs
Throughout the entire rental period, the lessor must provide free technical maintenance, installation, and repair of the item. If the equipment breaks down through no fault of the client, the repair must be carried out within a maximum of three days. In the case of complex repairs, this period may be extended up to ten days.
During the repair period, no usage fee is charged if the client is not provided with a similar replacement item. At the same time, the lessor has the right to issue an equivalent product without additional payment.
When the client will have to pay for the damage
Special attention should be paid to seals and the rules for using the equipment. If the user breaks seals or damages the item due to improper use, the repair costs must be compensated by the client.
For battery-operated equipment, separate conditions apply. When handing over the product, the batteries must be new. But if the item is in use for more than two weeks and the batteries run out, their replacement is paid for by the client.
Requirements for clothing and linens
There are also rules for renting clothing, linens, or other soft inventory. Such items must be issued only after dry cleaning or disinfection. If the use is prolonged, bed and table linens must be replaced free of charge every ten days.
What is required for car rental
For renting cars or watercraft, the client must have a valid license to operate the respective vehicle.
What to remember after the rental period ends
After the rental period ends, the item must be returned in working condition, taking into account natural wear and tear.
The State Consumer Service advises carefully checking the condition of the item before receiving it, reading the contract terms, and immediately recording any possible damages. This will help avoid conflicts and unnecessary expenses after returning the product.
