On Friday, May 29, a number of holidays are celebrated in Ukraine and worldwide. Several important events also took place on this day in the past.

May 29 is celebrated in Ukraine and worldwide as World Digestive Health Day. Its purpose is to draw attention to the prevention and treatment of digestive system diseases: stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas.

Also, May 29 is the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. It was established by the UN in 2002 to honor all military personnel, police officers, and civilians participating in peacekeeping missions around the world. The date was chosen deliberately – on May 29, 1948, the first UN peacekeeping mission began in the Middle East.

Additionally, May 29 is International Everest Day. It is dedicated to the world's highest mountain – Everest (Chomolungma), as well as the historic ascent of its summit, which first occurred on May 29, 1953, when New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay reached the peak. Today, Everest is not only a symbol of height records but also a reminder of human limits and responsibility toward nature.

What Church Holiday Is Today

On May 29, believers commemorate the Day of Remembrance of Saint Theodosia the Venerable Martyr, Virgin. She came from a devout family and dedicated herself to God from youth, choosing the path of virginity and prayer. For professing Christianity, she was subjected to cruel torture and ultimately accepted martyrdom without renouncing her faith. Her memory in church tradition is associated with an example of spiritual resilience, purity, and faithfulness to Christian ideals.
