On Saturday, May 30, a number of holidays are celebrated in Ukraine and worldwide. Several important events also took place on this day in the past.

May 30 in Ukraine is celebrated as the Day of Publishing, Printing, and Book Distribution Workers. It falls on the last Saturday of May. This professional holiday in Ukraine was established by a presidential decree on May 25, 1999, to honor the contribution of publishers, printers, and book distributors to the development of culture, education, and spirituality of Ukrainian society. The holiday unites everyone involved in the creation and distribution of books: editors, writers, designers, printers, publishing house employees, booksellers, and librarians. It has gained special significance during the full-scale war, when the Ukrainian book has become an important element in preserving language, culture, and national identity.

Also, May 30 is Steppe Day in Ukraine. It was initiated in 2017 by participants of a scientific seminar dedicated to the protection of steppe landscapes in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions. The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the preservation of Ukrainian steppes—a unique natural zone with rich flora and fauna. Steppes are very important for biodiversity, as many endangered plants and animals live there.

Additionally, May 30 is International Potato Day. This is a young international holiday proclaimed by the United Nations in December 2023 at the initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. It was first celebrated in 2024. The main goal of this day is to remind about the important role of the potato in fighting hunger, ensuring food security, and developing agriculture. Potato is among the five most important food crops in the world and is a staple food for billions of people.

May 30 also marks Women's Emancipation Day. This unofficial date is dedicated to women's struggle for equal rights, freedoms, and opportunities in society. In different countries and cultural traditions, it may be observed on various days, but it is most often associated with the development of the feminist movement in the 19th–20th centuries and women's fight for the right to education, work, property, and participation in elections.

On May 30, believers commemorate the memory of Saint Isaac of Dalmatia. According to tradition, Isaac was a hermit who came to Constantinople to support Orthodox Christians. He openly reproached Emperor Valens for persecuting Orthodox believers and predicted his death in war if he did not stop the oppression. The prophecy came true after the emperor's defeat at the Battle of Adrianople in 378.
