Church holiday

On June 7, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Theodotus, Bishop of Ancyra.

Theodotus lived in the 3rd century in the city of Ancyra and ran a hotel. He spoke with guests about faith and life, converting many pagans to Christianity and encouraging sinners to repentance.

During the persecution of Christians, his hotel became a refuge for believers. Theodotus visited prisoners, supported them, and secretly buried the bodies of the deceased. According to tradition, he received the gift of healing.

At that time, seven holy virgins also died. One of them, Tekusa, appeared to Theodotus in a dream asking him to raise their bodies from the lake and bury them. When he approached the water, a strong wind rose, the water receded, and the bottom was revealed, allowing him to fulfill the request.

After this, the ruler ordered Theodotus to be tortured and later executed. Until his last moments, he did not renounce his faith.
