The Khmelnytskyi City District Court considered criminal case № 686/12752/26  regarding threats of violence against police officers and sentenced the serviceman to 5 years and 6 months of imprisonment. This was reported by the court.

Case summary

According to the case materials, in March 2026 a report was received on the emergency line "102" that a serviceman, being intoxicated, refused to leave the ward of the municipal unitary enterprise "Khmelnytskyi Regional Anti-Tumor Center" despite being discharged from the hospital. When two police inspectors arrived at the scene, during communication with the officer, the man took a folding knife from a wooden cabinet shelf, opened it, and holding it in his right hand, while in close proximity, pointed the knife towards the police officers, expressing a threat of violence. After that, the police knocked the knife out of his hand and detained him using handcuffs.

For threatening violence against law enforcement officers in connection with the performance of their official duties, the accused is criminally liable under Part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The accused admitted his guilt. His guilt is also confirmed by evidence examined in the court session.

Court decision 

The Khmelnytskyi City District Court took into account that the accused fully admitted his guilt and sincerely repented, which mitigates his punishment. Aggravating circumstances include committing the crime while intoxicated and recidivism.

The man is a resident of Zaporizhzhia, characterized moderately at his place of residence, and exclusively positively during military service. In addition, he has an unexpunged conviction under Article 185, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is currently on probation.

The court found the man guilty of committing the crime under Part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment.

According to Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the unserved part of the sentence from the previous verdict was partially added to this punishment, and the final sentence was set at five years and six months of imprisonment.

An appeal can be filed against the verdict.
