In Boryspil, a man who threatened police officers with murder was convicted
The Boryspil City District Court has completed the trial of a man accused of threatening or using violence against a law enforcement officer (Part 1, Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This was reported by the court.
The court established that the man, while intoxicated, came out of his apartment onto the stairwell where police officers were present. The officers had arrived following a call from his sister, who reported domestic violence by her brother. The police were performing their official duties and intended to bring the man to administrative responsibility for the committed offense.
During the interaction with the police officers, the man began waving his hands holding two metal knives, closing the distance and approaching the officers, and verbally threatened them with murder, after which the accused was detained by the police.
Exercising his right under Article 63 of the Constitution of Ukraine, he refused to give explanations in court but answered the questions posed by the court.
Additionally, the accused drew the court's attention to the fact that on that day, after the burial of a comrade, he was upset, and having consumed alcohol, quarreled with his sister, who subsequently called the police. He also noted that he was preparing a salad, which is why he held the knives with which he threatened the police officers, but he did not cause any harm to their health. In the court session, the accused sincerely repented for what he had done, acknowledged his guilt, asked for forgiveness, and requested a punishment not involving actual imprisonment, taking into account his health condition.
After questioning the accused and reviewing the case materials, the court concluded that his guilt in committing the crime under Part 1, Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was proven. The man was found guilty and sentenced to two years of restriction of liberty (case No. 359/4507/26).
