In Mykolaiv region, a city council deputy was fined for the second time for using Russian during a session
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, issued a ruling imposing an administrative fine of 8,500 hryvnias for a repeated violation within a year of the language legislation requirements by a deputy of the Pervomaisk City Council of Mykolaiv Region.
During state control, the Commissioner's representative established the fact that the deputy used a non-state language during the 92nd regular session of the Pervomaisk City Council, which is a violation of part one of Article 12 of the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language."
As stated in the ruling, the deputy had already been held administratively liable for a similar violation in 2025, but again used Russian during an official meeting of the local self-government body.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language reminded that the working language of local self-government bodies, including the language of sessions, events, meetings, and official communication, is the state language.
If the fine is not paid within the specified period, the ruling is sent to the state executive service for enforcement in a compulsory manner.
According to the provisions of Article 308 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, in the procedure of compulsory enforcement of the ruling on the collection of a fine for committing an administrative offense, a double amount of the fine is collected from the offender, amounting to 17,000 UAH.
