Rustem Umerov unexpectedly arrived in Berlin: what and with whom he will discuss
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov unexpectedly arrived in Berlin to hold closed-door talks with national security advisors from the E3 countries - Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, writes Politico.
The negotiations are taking place in a confidential format. The spokesperson for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz refused to comment on the meeting, citing its closed nature.
Politico noted that the talks are happening at a critical moment following Russia's massive attack on Kyiv and new Moscow statements about "consistent and systematic strikes" on the Ukrainian capital.
Later, Umerov's spokeswoman Diana Davityan confirmed to journalists that the minister is working in Berlin.
According to her, one of the meetings was with German counterpart Günther Sautter.
The parties discussed security issues, the negotiation process, as well as defense cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, including the implementation of the Drone Deal.
At the same time, Davityan denied information about the alleged "emergency nature" of the talks.
"There is no emergency meeting. This is routine planned work with European colleagues. Yesterday was Brussels, today Berlin. There will also be several more European capitals this week," the spokeswoman said.
