In Odesa, a priest of the UOC MP was detained for adjusting Iskander strikes on the city
The SSU counterintelligence detained in Odesa a clergyman of the local diocese of the UOC MP suspected of cooperating with Russian military intelligence and adjusting missile strikes on the city.
According to the investigation, the priest transmitted to the enemy the coordinates of a recreational area in Odesa, which in March 2024 was hit by a double strike of ballistic "Iskander-M" missiles by Russian troops. The second strike was carried out by the occupiers after the arrival of emergency services at the site.
The SSU stated that after the attack, the suspect transmitted information about the consequences of the shelling to representatives of the Russian Main Intelligence Office and tried to conceal his activities. The investigation established that the man was recruited due to his activity in pro-Russian Telegram channels, after which he collected data on potential targets, air defense forces, and energy infrastructure facilities in Odesa Region.
During searches, the detainee's phone was seized with evidence of contacts with representatives of Russian intelligence. The priest was notified of suspicion of treason committed under martial law. The court chose a preventive measure of detention without the right to bail, and the article's sanction provides for life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
