"An invasion cannot be ruled out": the State Border Guard Service reported on the situation at the border with Belarus
Spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service Andrii Demchenko stated that currently there is no buildup of forces directly near the border with Ukraine on the territory of Belarus, but the activities deeper within the country are concerning.
He emphasized that since 2022 Belarus has maintained a small number of its units along the border with Ukraine – they are periodically rotated, but their number does not increase.
"At the same time, what is happening deeper within the country, according to intelligence reports, now indicates that Russia has begun to more actively pressure Belarus to more extensively and with its own forces join the war against Ukraine. Thus, provocations along our border may occur in the future. An invasion cannot be ruled out," Demchenko said in a comment to "Radio Svoboda."
At the same time, the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service stresses that Russia does not have strike groups, but at any moment it can transfer them to the territory of Belarus and use the infrastructure facilities that Belarus is building.
