The Armed Forces of Ukraine denied the Russian Federation's claims of an alleged attack on power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP
Ukraine rejected claims of an alleged strike on the power unit of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Earlier, the Russian Federation stated that on May 30 a Ukrainian drone "detonated" directly near the machine hall building of power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The Defense Forces of Ukraine stated that they did not strike power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and called the messages spread by the Russian side about the attack another information provocation.
The statement notes that Ukrainian military personnel act in accordance with international humanitarian law and do not carry out attacks on nuclear facilities. It is also emphasized that since March 2022, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been under the control of Russian troops.
The Defense Forces pointed out that the Russian Federation has not published convincing evidence to support its claims of an alleged strike on the plant. Moreover, according to the assessment of the Ukrainian military, the version of events presented does not correspond to the available facts and the technical characteristics of the weapons used.
It is also emphasized that during the incident, there were no active hostilities in the relevant section of the front and no weapons were used. The Ukrainian side reminded that international humanitarian law prohibits strikes on nuclear facilities.
