The Head of the Supreme Court Stanislav Kravchenko, during a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Ukraine Robert Martin Müller, outlined the key challenges currently facing the Ukrainian judicial system amid the full-scale war.

Stanislav Kravchenko thanked Austria for its humanitarian, financial, and political support to Ukraine and emphasized that one of the main tasks of the judiciary remains ensuring safe conditions for all participants in the judicial process, especially in courts located near the combat zone.

The Head of the Supreme Court noted that due to Russian aggression, new categories of cases related to the war have begun to enter Ukrainian courts. Thus, Ukraine's judicial system is already forming unprecedented practice that will undoubtedly influence the development of international law.

At the same time, systemic problems in the judiciary remain, including a significant personnel shortage in courts of all instances and the need to improve procedures for the selection and appointment of judges.

According to Stanislav Kravchenko, despite the difficult conditions of wartime, Ukraine's judicial system continues to function steadily and fulfill obligations related to the country's European integration. Therefore, he stressed the importance of support from international partners and the use of European experience for the further development of justice.

In turn, Robert Martin Müller noted Ukraine's progress in ensuring the rule of law and the proper functioning of the legal system even under full-scale war conditions.

As Robert Martin Müller pointed out, Ukraine is an important economic partner of Austria, and the Austrian government is considering participation in Ukraine's future post-war reconstruction.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues of documenting Russia's war crimes, prospects for populating the international Register of damages caused by the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, the activities of the Special Tribunal on the crime of aggression, as well as international initiatives for the return of forcibly deported Ukrainian children and their rehabilitation.
