The Cabinet of Ministers expanded the “Affordable Medicines” program: what will change for patients from July
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to further expand the state program “Affordable Medicines.” Starting from July 2026, 51 more international nonproprietary names of medicinal products will be added to the list of drugs covered by the reimbursement program. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yuliia Svyrydenko.
Among the new program drugs are medications for controlling blood pressure, treating heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, preventing thrombosis, lowering cholesterol levels, as well as therapy for patients after myocardial infarction or those at increased risk of stroke.
“The “Affordable Medicines” program allows Ukrainians to receive necessary medications free of charge or with partial co-payment via electronic prescription. In 2026, its budget increased to 8.7 billion UAH. Since the program’s inception, over 6 million Ukrainians have used it, and nearly 2 million patients have benefited just since the beginning of 2026,” emphasized Svyrydenko.
To obtain medicines under the program, a patient needs to visit a doctor, get an electronic prescription, and present it at a pharmacy marked with the sticker “Affordable Medicines Available Here.”
Importantly, if a Ukrainian manufacturer offers a drug that meets established requirements and has the lowest price, it may receive preference when being included in the program. “This will promote the development of domestic pharmaceutical production while simultaneously strengthening the stability of providing patients with necessary medicines,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
