More than 35 thousand drivers systematically exceed the speed limit — government data
Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko reported large-scale speed limit violations recorded by the automatic detection system.
According to her, over the past 12 months, automatic detection cameras identified almost 2,900 drivers who exceeded the speed limit more than 50 times.
Additionally, more than 35 thousand drivers were caught by cameras more than 10 times a year, and nearly 12.5 thousand — more than twenty times.
Therefore, Ukraine plans to introduce a tiered system of fines depending on the level of speeding and strengthen responsibility for repeat offenders.
The number of cameras will also be increased to over 410 units; currently, 377 are operational.
Recall that on June 5, 2026, around 5:00 PM, an accident occurred on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in Kyiv that shocked the entire Ukraine. Four pedestrians died as a result of the accident — two district police officers, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Three more people were injured.
The driver was detained and charged under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On June 8, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv chose a preventive measure for him — detention for 60 days without the right to bail.
It later turned out that the driver worked for a taxi service and was carrying a passenger. The online taxi service Bolt responded and announced enhanced safety rules afterward. From now on, it will permanently restrict access to the platform for drivers who receive at least two complaints about speeding or dangerous driving.
