Germany allows the start of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine as early as this summer
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that negotiations to end the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine could begin as early as this summer. In his opinion, the lack of a decisive advantage for either side on the front creates conditions for intensified diplomatic efforts. This is reported by The Guardian.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry noted that the hostilities have effectively reached a deadlock, and the situation on the battlefield does not allow either side to quickly achieve victory. For this reason, he believes, in the coming months there may be a chance to start the negotiation process.
Furthermore, according to the German minister, Putin "may currently be at a stage where he is seriously considering this issue."
At the same time, the minister did not specify in what format potential negotiations might take place or whether there are currently any concrete agreements regarding their preparation and conduct.
