Kyiv police detained a 23-year-old man who, according to the investigation, robbed a passerby near the VDNH expo center under the pretext of getting acquainted. This was reported by the Kyiv police.

A 34-year-old Kyiv resident contacted the emergency line 102, reporting that an unknown man took her mobile phone. An investigative-operational group from the Holosiivskyi district arrived at the scene.

Law enforcement officers established that around 11:00 PM, the suspect approached the woman, introducing himself with the intention to get acquainted. After that, he deliberately provoked a verbal conflict. During the argument, the victim dropped her expensive mobile phone on the ground.

When the phone was on the ground, the man picked it up, put it in his pocket, and despite demands to return the property, left the scene.

In less than a day, operatives of the Holosiivskyi police department together with criminal analysis analysts identified the suspect. He turned out to be a 23-year-old native of Zhytomyr region, who lives in Kyiv.

According to the investigation, he hid the stolen phone in the car of his acquaintance and planned to sell it.

Law enforcement officers seized the mobile phone and returned it to the owner.

Investigators detained the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor's Office, he was notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — robbery committed under martial law conditions.

The article's sanction provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
