Maternity leave can be postponed: how to change the start date of the leave
Many expectant mothers believe that maternity leave automatically begins at the 30th week of pregnancy. However, the law allows a woman to independently choose a later start date if there are no medical contraindications.
If a pregnant employee wants to continue working after the 30th week, she can postpone the start of maternity leave. To do this, several steps must be taken.
Consult a doctor
First of all, you should consult the doctor who is managing the pregnancy. If there are no medical contraindications, the woman can submit an application addressed to the head of the medical institution requesting the issuance of an electronic sick leave (medical certificate of the category "Pregnancy and childbirth") from the desired date. After that, the doctor will enter the relevant data into the electronic health care system.
Submit an application to the employer
After the electronic sick leave is opened, it is necessary to apply to the employer with a request for maternity leave. The document must specify the same start date of the leave as indicated in the e-sick leave.
Wait for the order to be issued
Based on the employee's application and the opened electronic sick leave, the employer issues an official order granting the leave. Only after this will the leave be formalized according to the established date.
Thus, a woman has the right to independently determine a later start of maternity leave if her health condition allows her to continue working.
