Owners of luxury cars paid almost 140 million UAH in tax over 5 months – where the most was paid
From January to May 2026, local budgets received 140.2 million UAH in transport tax from owners of expensive cars, which is 47.1% more than in the same period last year.
This was reported by the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
In total, 8,978 car owners paid the transport tax in the first five months of the year. Since these funds remain entirely at the disposal of local communities, the increase in revenues means additional resources for financing local needs and infrastructure development.
The largest transport tax revenues were recorded in the following regions:
- Kyiv city – 40.6 million UAH;
- Dnipropetrovsk region – 14.3 million UAH;
- Kyiv region – 10.8 million UAH;
- Lviv region – 10.7 million UAH.
The list of passenger cars subject to taxation in 2026 is published on the official website of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
It concerns cars up to five years old, whose average market value exceeds the state-established threshold. In 2026, this threshold is over 3.2 million UAH.
The obligation to pay the transport tax lies exclusively with the legal owner of the vehicle, i.e., the person in whose name the car is registered. Renters and users by power of attorney do not have such an obligation.
The transport tax rate is fixed and amounts to 25,000 UAH per year for each car.
