A Kyiv resident who tried to illegally cross the border between Ukraine and Romania encountered a bear during a nighttime crossing in the mountainous area. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

According to the SBGS, the man independently planned a route outside official checkpoints and headed towards the Ukrainian-Romanian border. While moving through the mountains, he unexpectedly came across a wild animal.

Fleeing from the bear, the violator climbed a tree and called for help from there.

Military personnel from the "Dilove" unit of the Mukachevo Border Detachment promptly arrived at the call. By the time they arrived, the bear was no longer nearby. The border guards helped the man safely descend from the tree and took him to the unit.

For attempting to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine, an administrative protocol was drawn up against him under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

The State Border Guard Service reminds that illegal border crossing poses a real danger to life and health, and the only safe way to leave Ukraine remains compliance with the legal procedure.
