The new Prime Minister of Romania is a native of Ukraine
Eugen Tomac, a native of the Odessa region, has been appointed the new Prime Minister of Romania. This decision was announced on June 4 by the country's president, Nicușor Dan.
Tomac's nomination for the position of prime minister came a month after the resignation of the previous prime minister Ilie Bolojan's government, which was given a vote of no confidence.
Introducing his candidate, Nicușor Dan described him as someone who has the appropriate values and experience in communicating with various political forces, while remaining independent from political factions.
In turn, Tomac thanked the president and stated that he "fully understands the difficult context we are experiencing" and the expectations of Romanians. He promised to propose "a professional government team that will work for the benefit of citizens" and to engage in dialogue with all pro-Western and democratic political forces to form the government.
Eugen Tomac was born in 1981 in the Izmail district of the Odessa region of Ukraine to a family of Bessarabian Romanians. In the early 2000s, he came to Romania, where he graduated from the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest, Digi24.ro writes.
Additionally, Tomac is known for supporting the European integration of Moldova and the idea of its unification with Romania.
