Australia's Smallest Town with Two Residents is for Sale for 400 Thousand Dollars
Australia's smallest town with a population of two people has been put up for sale for 400 thousand Australian dollars. Along with the settlement, the new owner will receive a residential house, a store, a bar, a motel, and other local infrastructure facilities. This was reported by ABC.
The town in question is Cooladdi, located in the state of Queensland. Currently, only two residents officially live there — Carol Yarrow and Joe Cornell, who have effectively maintained the town's operation over the past three years.
Despite the minimal number of residents, tourists and farmers from surrounding areas regularly pass through Cooladdi. The local road complex serves visitors, and the owners perform several functions — from working in the store to delivering mail.
Cooladdi retains its official town status thanks to having its own postal code 4479. In the past, up to 270 people lived here, but after the closure of the railway station and school, the population gradually decreased.
The owners explain their decision to sell by their desire to pass the matter on to new people.
"I just turned 70 years old, and I realize that I am a bit too old for this kind of work. There was some fear that the town would simply disappear, but we managed to revive it and keep life here going. I hope someone else can do the same," Yarrow said.
A representative of the real estate agency handling the sale noted that the town remains profitable due to several sources of income, including local business and the postal route.
The local authorities also support the search for a new owner. According to them, Cooladdi is a unique settlement that continues to attract tourists and travelers, despite the fact that only two people permanently live there.
