The Verkhovna Rada failed the vote on decriminalizing pornography
On Thursday, May 28, the Verkhovna Rada failed to pass the bill on decriminalizing pornography. Only 207 members of parliament supported the document.
As previously reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", a group of people's deputies introduced bill 12191 to parliament in 2024 regarding the decriminalization of porn.
Since then, 1.5 years have passed, and the document remained inactive.
However, amid news about police protection of "porn offices", the bill was discussed again.
It should be noted that according to the investigation, police officials and persons close to them may have received illegal benefits to ensure the unhindered operation of premises where pornographic content was illegally created and distributed.
On May 28, the document was finally brought to parliament for consideration. However, it still failed to gain support.
"This is not a 'legalization of porn,' because it is already legalized, and for a couple of years now we have been collecting millions in taxes from platforms like OnlyFans. This is the 'decriminalization of porn.' So that people are not thrown in jail for storing content or subjected to mass 'secret purchases' on webcams," the Verkhovna Rada stated.
