Church Holiday
On June 3, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the holy martyr Lucillian and those who suffered with him for the Christian faith.
According to church tradition, Lucillian lived in Antioch in the 3rd century. In adulthood, he was a pagan priest but later converted to Christianity and began preaching the new faith. Thanks to his sermons, many pagans converted to Christianity.
After a denunciation, he was arrested, beaten, and imprisoned. In prison, he met four young men — Claudius, Hypatius, Paul, and Dionysius — who also accepted the Christian faith.
According to tradition, the martyrs were tried to be executed by being thrown into a furnace, but they remained unharmed. After that, they were taken to Byzantium, where Lucillian was crucified, and the young men were executed. A witness to their feat was the holy virgin Paula, who helped imprisoned Christians and continued her service after their death.
