"Zoo in the trunk" – 77 exotic animals smuggling uncovered at the border with Poland
At the "Krakivets" checkpoint on the border with Poland, border guards together with customs officers discovered 77 exotic animals that were being illegally brought into Ukraine. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
During the vehicle inspection, law enforcement officers found 77 living creatures, including spiders, reptiles, and insects. All of them were placed in plastic containers and transported without proper conditions.
The driver stated that he was transporting a "package" from Germany to Chernivtsi for a local exotic animal breeder. He had no documents permitting the movement of such fauna across the border.
All discovered exotic animals were handed over to the Lviv City Children's Ecological and Naturalistic Center. They will be provided with proper conditions for keeping and care there.
