Ukraine and Slovakia Agreed on Exchange of Archival Documents and Archivist Internships — What the Agreement Entails
In the Slovak city of Prešov, the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, Anatoliy Khromov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Ukrderzharkhiv and the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
The document became the first interagency international agreement on cooperation between the archival institutions of Ukraine and Slovakia. The memorandum provides for the exchange of specialists, conducting joint scientific research, studying archival materials, searching for documents on the history of both states, as well as exchanging copies of archival documents of mutual interest, the Ministry of Justice reported.
In addition, the parties agreed to organize joint conferences, exhibitions, publish collections of documents, as well as internships and exchange of professional experience among archivists.
On the Slovak side, the memorandum was signed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior and Government Commissioner for Territorial Self-Government, Michal Kaliňák.
The implementation of the agreements on the Slovak side will be handled by the Department of Public Administration of the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia, the Department of Archives and Registers, as well as the state archives of the country.
During his visit to Prešov, Anatoliy Khromov also visited the local state archive, where he familiarized himself with its work and discussed the possibility of organizing internships for Ukrainian archivists and developing cross-border cooperation, particularly with the State Archive of Zakarpattia Region.
The organization of the signing ceremony was ensured by the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovakia and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov.
