Volodymyr Zelensky addressed Donald Trump and the US Congress over critical shortage of air defense systems
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent a letter to the American President Donald Trump and the US Congress regarding the critical shortage of air defense systems for Ukraine. This was reported by the President's communications advisor Dmytro Lytvyn.
As Kyiv Independent notes, in the appeal Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned about worsening situation with air defense supplies, especially systems for intercepting ballistic missiles.
In the letter, the President emphasized that amid intensified massive Russian attacks, Ukraine increasingly depends on allies' support in the field of air defense. This particularly concerns the American Patriot complexes.
"When it comes to protection against ballistic missiles, we almost entirely rely on the United States," the appeal states.
According to the publication, Ukrainian authorities fear that the existing stocks of Patriot interceptor missiles and other Western-supplied systems may not be sufficient to repel new waves of attacks.
According to the data, Ukraine's ambassador to the US Olha Stefanishyna will deliver the letter to representatives of the White House, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson, and members of Congress.
The document also mentions difficulties in ensuring deliveries through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, which allows NATO countries to finance the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.
"The current pace of deliveries through the PURL program no longer corresponds to the real level of threat we face," Zelensky noted.
The President of Ukraine called on the US to help with the supply of Patriot PAC-3 missiles and additional air defense systems.
In the letter, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the Ukrainian sky can be protected. "Most Russian missiles can be stopped," emphasized the President of Ukraine.
