The Kyiv City State Administration explained how Kyiv will celebrate City Day on May 31
In Kyiv, dozens of cultural, sports, and educational events will be held for City Day, but without citywide celebrations due to martial law. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
They reminded that Kyiv has been celebrating Kyiv Day and Capital Day under martial law for the fifth year in a row. Given the security situation, the city authorities are not organizing mass citywide events and urge residents to follow safety rules, monitor air raid alerts, and immediately go to shelters if an alert is announced.
At the same time, a number of cultural, artistic, sports, and educational events for children and adults are planned in the capital.
In particular, at the "Zoloti Vorota" metro station, an exhibition of artworks by students and teachers of the Professional College "Universum" of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University titled "Unbreakable City" is already underway.
Traditionally, the festive awarding of the "KYIV" art prize will take place for Kyiv Day.
During the weekend, Kyiv residents and guests of the capital will be able to visit the folk art fair at the Ivan Honchar Museum, as well as the 20th International Festival-Competition of Choral Art "Song over the Dnipro." In Holosiivskyi Park, an art gallery will operate and the "Kyiv – Unbreakable Capital!" event with master classes will take place. On Andriyivskyy Descent, a cultural and artistic event "Descent of Unity" will be held, which will unite regions of Ukraine through folk traditions, crafts, and creative presentations.
The festive atmosphere will be complemented by open-air concerts. In particular, carillon music will sound from the bell tower of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. Also, performances by creative groups and young performers will take place in the parks and squares of the capital.
The main sports event of the festive weekend will be the traditional "Chestnut Run." In addition, open competitions in kickboxing, rowing, and beach handball will be held in the city. The Truhaniv Tennis Cup tennis tournament will take place on Trukhaniv Island.
On May 31, Kyiv Day, free city tours will be organized for everyone interested.
Thematic exhibitions, creative meetings, literary events, and children's workshops dedicated to the history and culture of Kyiv will also be held in the museums and libraries of the capital.
The KCSA emphasized that all events will be conducted taking into account the requirements of martial law. Shelters or designated nearest safe places will be provided at locations for participants in case of an air raid alert.
