The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klychko, stated that the capital is preparing for the new heating season amid the threat of repeated attacks on the energy infrastructure and is working on creating an alternative heating system.

According to the mayor, the city was prepared for last winter but could not independently protect energy facilities from Russian strikes. After the destruction, the city authorities restored heat and power supply in the shortest possible time during the heating season.

"All our facilities were operational, but we cannot protect them. This is the task of our Armed Forces. And if the facilities are destroyed, we do everything as quickly as possible," Klychko said in an interview with Kyiv24.

According to Klychko, the stability of the capital's heat and electricity supply largely depends on the operation of the nationwide energy infrastructure and the supply of energy resources.

However, preparation for the next winter involves broader participation of local self-government bodies in ensuring heating and energy resilience of communities, Klychko added.

He noted that this is a serious challenge for the capital, as Kyiv has one of the largest centralized heating systems in Europe, which was developed over decades."Now our task is to build an alternative duplicate system in a very short time in case the centralized supply system is destroyed, which we still need to restore during this heating season and also build a duplicate system in case of new strikes on our energy system to provide services to the residents of the capital," said Vitalii Klychko.
