In Kyiv, a man was preparing to assassinate official of the Main Intelligence Directorate: Russian special services promised him $100,000
In Kyiv, law enforcement officers uncovered and detained an agent of the Russian special services who was preparing an assassination attempt on one of the officials of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense. The suspect is currently in custody.
According to the National Police, Russian special services recruited a 38-year-old Kyiv resident and promised him $100,000 for the murder of one of the heads of a structural unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate. He received $10,000 of this amount as an advance.
The man had previously been prosecuted for property crimes. After recruitment, he was supposed to organize the execution of the contract killing.
The investigation established that the suspect collected information about the official: studied his movement routes, daily routine, place of residence, vehicles, and surrounding infrastructure. After that, he determined the method of committing the crime — using an FPV drone. The suspect also began searching for an executor skilled in operating drones.
However, he failed to carry out the plan. With the support of special police units and the TOR patrol police, operatives of the criminal investigation, criminal police, and investigators detained the suspect.
During a sanctioned search at his residence, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones, a GPS tracker, a car, and other physical evidence.
Investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — preparation for intentional murder with mercenary motives. The article's sanction provides for punishment from 10 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
Investigative actions are ongoing to identify other persons who may be involved in preparing the assassination attempt. Procedural guidance in the case is carried out by the Office of the Prosecutor General. The pre-trial investigation continues.
