Two-year-old boy died after hospitalization: child services worker on trial
An indictment has been sent to court against a specialist of the Child Services of one of the city councils in the Lviv region. The investigation believes that due to the woman's improper performance of official duties, a two-year-old boy from the Mostyska community died.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, at the beginning of February, the child was brought to the hospital in serious condition. About an hour later, the boy died. According to the investigation, the cause of death was a viral infection against the background of critical exhaustion of the body, dehydration, and acute alcohol intoxication. The level of alcohol in the child's blood significantly exceeded the levels allowed even for adults.
It was established that the family, in which five minor children were raised, had been registered since September 2023 as being in difficult life circumstances. The family was recorded to have inadequate living conditions, unsanitary conditions, lack of heating, cases of domestic violence, and alcohol abuse by the parents.
By official duties, the control over the living conditions of the children was assigned to the child services worker. However, according to the investigation, she did not provide proper supervision. During 2024, only four inspection reports were drawn up without specifying dates, and from the third quarter, inspections were practically not conducted. The children's personal files also lacked data on their health status and medical examinations.
Despite the existing risks to the children, no measures were taken to protect them, including removal from the dangerous environment.
The actions of the accused have been qualified as official negligence that caused a person's death.
Separately, a criminal case against the boy's parents is already being considered in court on charges of malicious failure to fulfill child care duties (Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
