Is it necessary to pay a pension fee for an inherited car – answered by the Pension Fund of Ukraine
21:30, 8 June 2026
The fee is paid only during the first registration of a car in Ukraine, specifically a new one or one imported from abroad.
The Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Chernivtsi region explained when the mandatory state pension insurance fee is paid during vehicle registration and whether it applies to inheritance.
- The pension fee is paid only during the first registration of a vehicle in Ukraine. This applies to the purchase of a new car at a dealership or the first registration of a used car imported from abroad.
- In the case of re-registration of a used car that has already been registered in Ukraine to a previous owner, the fee is not paid. It also does not apply to passenger cars with exclusively electric engines.
- Citizens who receive a passenger car as an inheritance are exempt from paying the pension fee during its registration.
Thus, inheriting a car is not a reason to pay this fee.
