Start of holidays and vacations: 123 thousand border crossings recorded in one day
Passenger traffic across the state border of Ukraine has sharply increased with the beginning of the summer season. Most often, families with children leave the country, which is related to the end of the school year and the start of the vacation period. The State Border Guard Service predicts that in mid-summer the flows of entry and exit will equalize, and by the end of the season, those returning to Ukraine will have the advantage.
Spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service Andriy Demchenko points out that just in the past day, 123 thousand people crossed the border, which became one of the highest figures since the beginning of the year.
According to him, during the spring period, the average daily number of border crossings was about 85 thousand people on weekdays and 90–95 thousand on weekends. Currently, on weekends, this figure has risen to approximately 120 thousand crossings.
"During this week on weekdays, it did not drop below 100 thousand, meaning there were 103 and 110 thousand border crossings per day. This is traditional when the summer period begins, passenger traffic sharply increases," Demchenko said on the telemarathon broadcast.
The State Border Guard Service also notes that in June, the departure of citizens from Ukraine predominates. This trend is associated with the start of summer vacations and the end of the school year.
As the border service spokesperson explained, currently mothers with children more often travel abroad, taking advantage of summer holidays for travel or temporary stays outside the country.
At the same time, in July, border guards expect a more balanced distribution of passenger traffic, when the number of those entering Ukraine and leaving it will be approximately equal. According to the State Border Guard Service forecast, in August, the inflow to Ukraine will already exceed the outflow.
