In Zakarpattia, compliance with language legislation is being checked in communities where representatives of Hungarian and Romanian national minorities live.
From June 15 to 19, representatives of the Secretariat of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language studied the language situation in six communities of Berehove and Tyachiv districts of Zakarpattia region, where representatives of Hungarian and Romanian national minorities reside.
According to the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, during the monitoring visit, working meetings were held with representatives of regional and local authorities. In particular, representatives of the Secretariat spoke with the head of Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Myroslav Biletskyi, head of Berehove District State Administration Vitalii Matiy, Berehove city mayor Zoltan Babyak, deputy head of Tyachiv District State Administration Vadym Nosa, deputy mayor of Tyachiv Tiberiy Mysaresh, and Solotvyno settlement head Vasyl Yovdiy.
During the meetings, they discussed the state of implementation of the state language policy, compliance with language legislation requirements in various spheres, and the formation of a quality Ukrainian-speaking environment in the border communities of Zakarpattia.
Head of Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Myroslav Biletskyi emphasized the importance of developing effective mechanisms to support and promote the Ukrainian language in the multinational region.
In turn, Berehove city mayor Zoltan Babyak stressed the importance of combining support for the cultural and linguistic diversity of the community with the creation of proper conditions for learning and using the state language by all residents regardless of their nationality or native language.
Deputy head of the Secretariat of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Serhiy Syrotenko noted that in the conditions of a full-scale war, the significance of the Ukrainian language as a factor of national security and state unity has significantly increased.
Based on the results of the monitoring visit, appropriate conclusions and recommendations will be prepared.
