Google Will Pay SpaceX Nearly $1 Billion a Month for AI Capabilities
SpaceX has signed another major agreement to provide computing power to Google. The company announced the deal in a regulatory filing published on June 5.
Under the terms of the contract, Google will pay SpaceX $920 million per month from October 2026 to June 2029 for access to "approximately 110,000 NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), memory, and other related components."
This deal is similar in duration and scale to the one SpaceX announced at the end of May with Anthropic. Under that agreement, Anthropic agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month until 2029 to lease all available computing resources of the Colossus 1 data center near Memphis, Tennessee. This center, belonging to xAI, which is now part of SpaceX, was originally created for its own artificial intelligence projects.
It appears that the deal with Google provides access to roughly half the amount of computing resources that Anthropic received at Colossus 1. SpaceX did not specify which data center Google will use. Previously, the company's CEO Elon Musk stated that the Colossus 2 data center would be reserved for xAI's needs.
Before signing the deal with SpaceX, Anthropic was significantly limited in computing power and raised the usage limits of its services on the same day the collaboration was announced. Google is in a different position: by some estimates, the company is the world's largest owner of computing power for artificial intelligence.
In a statement, a Google representative explained the deal by the unexpectedly high demand for recently launched AI products.
"Google Cloud and SpaceX have been long-time partners. This is a short-term and timely agreement that will allow us to gain additional capacity to meet the rapidly growing customer demand for our Gemini Enterprise agent platform, which has turned out to be even higher than we expected," the company said.
