The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, announced that the new Secretary of Defense is Dan Jarvis — he replaced John Healey in the position.

“My first duty is to ensure the security of the British people, and I will always do whatever is necessary to protect our national security. I am pleased to appoint Dan Jarvis as Secretary of Defense as we strengthen our armed forces and counter the increasing threats facing our country,” announced Prime Minister Starmer.

Recall that earlier John Healey announced his resignation. He justified his decision by disagreeing with the government's defense spending plans, which he said were insufficient given the growing threats to the country.

What is known about Dan Jarvis

Dan Jarvis has been a Member of Parliament for the Barnsley North constituency since 2011. He also served as Mayor of South Yorkshire from 2018 to 2022.

In 2024, Jarvis was appointed Minister for Security at the Home Office, where he worked until today. Previously, Jarvis served as an officer in the Parachute Regiment of the British Army from 1997 to 2011. He participated in military missions in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
